the wine list
our wines are selected to match our highly flavored cuisine and the smokey, rich flavors of our wood-grilled meats and seafood.  The list is nearly all American selections from well-regarded wineries.  Like our menu, our wine list changres from time to time to take advantage of limited release wines and current vintages.

An excellent match for Salmon and the American counterpart to Italian Pinot Grigio. Fruity and forward with a lingering spice 

Kenwood Sauvignon Blanc 2002 Sonoma County   $26
This wine displays real fruit intensity. A well-balanced wine with the lively, crisp acidity associated with this style.
Rated a 92! (wine spectator)

Castello di Gabbiano Pinot Grigio 2002 Venezie   $22
Melon & citrus nuances, medium bodied.  Not thin or acidic like many other PG’s.  An excellent producer and a wonderful match of seafood, pork, pasta.

Standing Stone Gewurztraminer 2004     $27
Classicly Alsatian in style means that this wine is rich, mouthfilling, dry, complex, and loaded with flavor. Taste the lychee and honeysuckle, smell the lavender and roses, and enjoy it all coming together in the glass.

An off dry wine that is offset by the grapes natural fruity and spicy characteristics.

Lamoreaux Landing Chardonnay 2001 Finger Lakes   $20
A crisp fruity Chardonnay produced on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake. An excellent New York State wine.

Barrel aged Napa Valley Chardonnay produced in small batches.  St clement’s wines reflect a deep respect for the land and the enduring characteristics of geology, soil, and climate.

Sonoma~Cutrer Chardonnay 2003 Russian River Ranches   $36
From a well respected all-Chardonnay estate that produces outstanding Burgundy-styled wines.  Melon, apricot and apple flavors and a lingering finish.  Always a great bottle.

Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc 2004 New Zealand      $34
Soft, lingering mildly grapefruity citrus notes that start with expansive mid palate of ripe peach and nectarine.  A very harmonious white that excels with seafood.  A winery with a reputation for superb selections and screw tops.

Freemark Chardonnay 2002 Rutherford  Napa Valley    $38
A classic Rutherford Chardonnay the rich fruit and crisp acidity. Flavors of Apple, pear and fig with a nose of citrus, pinapple and a hint of clove.  An excellent shellfish match or just great for sipping.  Opens nicely in the glass.

Clos Du Bois Calcaire Alexander Valley 2002    $44
This chardonnay was aged in for 10 months in French Oak barrels to add a touch of toast and a hint of sweetness. This year’s Calcaire is bursting with tropical spice as well as ripe melon and pear. It is creamy and supple on the palate with a lingering finish.

Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay 2002 Alexander Valley   $42
Lush, full, barrel fermented Chard known for it’s tropical pineapple, mango, citrus notes.  Balanced and harmonious… delicious!

Chateau St. Jean Robert Young  2001 Alexander Valley $45
A benchmark Chardonnay for 30 years. Toasty oak and velvety texture with minerally citrus notes and a long finish.  An outstanding Chardonnay.

Silverado Chardonnay 2002 Napa Valley    $36
Apple, toasted bread and wet stone aromas. Baked apple pie, vanilla bean and sweet oak flavors dominate; medium body with rich, silky texture, persistent finish. –winery notes


 
Spicy Zinfandel, Sirah, other recklessly jam-packed reds
Zinfandels tend to fall under one of three styles… mimicking a Bordeaux Blend style…
Jammy… opulent, rich, almost Amarone-style, thick, chewy wines… and Spicy… black pepper tinged ripe fruit…   Other wines that exhibit these styles that we group with Zin include petit syrah, rhone grapes (Grenache, mourvedre etc)

David Bruce Zinfandel 2002 Paso Robles    $34
David Bruce Winery has produced excellent Zinfandel for many years, but in the early nineties decided that Paso Robles was the best region to grow Zin grapes…the result is a wine that is rich in raspberry fruit and spicy black pepper. A Zin with Zing !

Hidden Cellars Zinfandel Old Vines 2000 Menodcino   $34
Legend has it that the owner and winemaker of this well-established property was known for growing a different high-quality agricultural product back in his hippy days.  Turning his attention to grapes, Hidden Cellars makes some of the best Zin around from knarly, old, deep-root vines.  A great bottle.

Kunde Century Vines Zinfandel  Shaw Vineyards  2001            $44
Flavors reminiscent of ripe raspberries, black licorice and a dusting of cocoa combine with American oak components of caramel, vanilla, aand roasted nuts in this full flavored, full-bodied celebration. A delight for the true Zin lover!

Stags Leap Winery Petite Syrah 2001 Napa Valley   $50
Year after year a legendary wine.  Inky ripe fruit, moderate tannins, intense flavors just begging for a grilled steak or rack of lamb.  Chef Randall’s favorite 

Rosenblum Cellars Zinfandel 2003 Continente Vineyard  $38
This historic head pruned and dry farmed vineyard is located near the entrance to the San Francisco Bay. The 100 years old vines sit in sloping sandy soil. Rich and intense with a bouquet reminiscent of black cherries, chocolate and succulent plums. The flavors are ripe black cherry with currants & anise.

Kenwood Zinfandel Sonoma County 2001    $32
A classic Sonoma winery that makes claret style Zin from selected Sonoma vines.  Excellent with steak & lamb.

Clos du Bois Zinfandel North Coast California 2001   $30
A zesty Zin with ripe, peppery raspberry flavors, full bodied with a smooth finish.  Excellent all-around food match.

David Bruce Petite Sirah Central Coast 2003    $36
Opulent, racy-ripe black fruit with medium tannins make for a heady wine experience from one of our favorite producers.  Forget dinner and order a second bottle.

Silky Pinot Noir, supple merlots and silky shiraz qualify as great sipping wines and nice matches for a table full of different entrees.  No wrong choices here !
 

David Bruce Pinot Noir Truchard Vineyard 2002   $50
This renegade winemaker has been accused of making over-extracted, rich wines.  Of course the accusers are the ones making wimpy, thin wines.  We like the way David does it.  An outstanding bottle of Pinot.

Rosemount Shiraz 2002 Australia      $30
Rosemount Estates is famous for creating wines that offer intense, spicy fruit and a long richly textured finish.
A  wine sure not to disappoint.

Goats do Roam Wine Company: Goat-Roti, South Africa 2003 $30
A tongue-in-cheek take off on Cote-Roti of southern France.  The wine shows briary, peppered fruit aromas  from Shiraz, Grenache, Carignan and Viognier grapes.   Smooth, silky tannins and ripe fruit with a generous finish.

Newton Claret 2001 Napa Valley     $48
A classic, approachable restaurant wine from a super winery!  A reticent nose, which hints of red currants and olives, that gradually opens with breathing. Deep classic merlot/cabernet flavors with notes of spices and dark berries. A graceful wine that will age well to at least the end of the decade. 

Renwood Syrah 2002 Sierra Series     $30
Ripe, succulent, berry fruit flavors that match well with lighter meats and even Salmon or seafood.

Chateau de la Chaize Brouilly, Beaujolais France 2002  $30
A richer style of Beaujolais that makes a good all-around food match.  A standard on many wine lists from a respected producer.  Try with pork, chicken, Salmon.

Meridian Pinot Noir 2003 Central Coast     $26
From select vineyards along Californias cool central coast.  Ripe, soft berry flavors with a hint of spice.
 

Iron Horse Pinot Noir 2002 Estate Bottled Sonoma County  $55 
Another pinot specialist  producing ripe, rich, complex wine in a cool microclimate.  Rich smoky-cherry fruit and medium tannins make this a special wine experience. 

Fleur de Carneros Pinot Noir 2003     $26
Balanced, silky-ripe berry flavors from an established, consistent winery.  A nice all-around match.


 
Cabernet etc.      a.k.a Steak & Lamb wine 

Clos du Val Merlot Napa Valley  2001    $50
Back in the early 70’s this winery surprised the world by beating out top Bordeaux estates in a blind tasting. 30 years later they still produce outstanding wines in limited quantities.  This is what good Merlot is all about, made in the style of a fine St. Emilion with 16 months of oak aging in French barrels resulting in classically structured, lush, ripe, jammy wine.  Excellent with steaks, lamb, venison or duck.

Cosentino Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2002   $46
Rich, complex, smoky-ripe fruit that keeps going and going.    Minerally overtones with the addition af Cabernet Franc.  An excellent bottle.

William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2001 Napa Valley    $34
Ripe, rich, berry-cherry fruit with medium tannins.  A nice quaffing steak wine.

Carmenet Cabernet Sauvignon Cellar selection 2000    $22
From Sonoma’s Carmenet Vineyards, comes this rich, spicy Cab with a lingering, toasty oak finish. 

Conn Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 Napa Valley   $48
A limited release Cab from a premier winery in California, a winery that owns virtually no Cabernet grapes. This wine is a blend of Cabernet grapes from very select premium Napa Valley microclimates. The result is wine with complexity and balance that consistently rates in the 90’s from wine spectator.

Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2000  $95
One of the most sought after labels in Cabernet.  100% Cab grapes aged in American oak with inky rich color and deep berry flavors.  A classic.

Clos du Bois Marlstone 2001 Alexander Valley   $60
A blend of the 5 Bordeaux varietals.. Cabernet, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot.  From select benchland vineyards, aged 24 months in oak.  Ripe black cherry, cassis and complex nuances of roasted coffee, cocoa and allspice.  An incredibly rich, soft, palate with a long, long silky finish.  Outstanding.

Kiona Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 Washington State   $55 
Rated one of the top 10 wines of 2003 by the Wine Spectator!  Aged in oak, this wine emphasizes rich fruit and full body character.  Limited availability.  Outstanding!
